Version 1.14.3, May 2017 - What's new?

Fixed bugs

  • RO module

    • In version 1.14.2 there was a bug in the undo/redo/comparison feature of the Reverse Osmosis (RO) module, which could result in a crash of the software after 30 modifications (change of temperature etc.) on the design screen. This has been fixed.

  • Base module

    • Due to limitations of Microsoft Windows, LewaPlus could crash, when opening to many projects in parallel. A maximum number of 4 projects, which can be opened in parallel, is now introduced in LewaPlus 1.14.3.

Fixed bugs

  • CP module

    • For high temperatures the calculation of the conductivity and of the concentration of the alkalizing agent in mg/l could fail, resulting in erroneous values. This has been fixed.

  • RO module

    • In version 1.14.1 a bug in the undo/redo/comparison feature was introduced due to the modified memory management, unfortunately. This could result in wrong results on undoing or redoing a data change or on restoring a comparison run. This has been fixed.
    • For certain design configurations the calculation could fail, since a feed pressure at element level lower than the actual osmotic pressure for an element at the end of a pressure vessel due to too high overall feed pressure was sometimes erroneously classified as "too low overall feed pressure". This has been fixed.

  • RO module

    • Progressive regeneration triggered a program crash. That issue has been fixed

Features

  • All modules
    • The scrolling behaviour of various panels of the project window has been enhanced.
  • RO module
    • The feature for comparing different design calculations has been enhanced: it is now possible to specify a user-defined selection of attributes. The current attribute selection can be saved as the future user-defined default attribute selection.
    • An undo / redo feature has been added to the design screen. This allows to easily undo or redo recent changes to the design configuration. Up to 30 changes are saved in the undo / redo history.
    • The design overview now references the treated feed instead of the raw water feed.

Fixed bugs

  • RO module
    • Reverting to a specific run from the comparison list didn't fully work. Only numeric values were restored, but not other design configuration options like "permeate blending" and so on. This could lead to problems in applying further changes. This has been fixed.
    • Minor glitches in the Excel export of the run comparison list have been fixed.
    • A few screen layout glitches have been fixed.

Features

  • RO module
    • A new feature has been added for comparing different design calculations. The design screen of an RO project has now an additional tab named "Run comparison". Simulation runs can be added manually to a comparison list. The comparison list shows user selectable design attributes and can be exported to Excel
    • The determination of the primary default configuration has been adjusted to keep the ratio of the number of pressure vessels between successive stages within reasonable ranges.
    • The primary default configuration for seawater applications now includes an isobaric ERD.
    • The salt passage for seawater applications has been adjusted to meet field data measurements.

Fixed bugs

  • RO module
    • Especially for designs with a high recovery rate the calculation could fail by entering an endless loop. This has been fixed.
    • Deselecting local concentrate circulation for pass 2 in a 2-pass design could cause locking of the user interface controls for concentrate recirculation. This has been fixed.
  • Demi / Demi Check module
    • A screen layout problem for designs including a polisher has been fixed.

Features

  • Base module
    • A direct access to the application form for a permanent license has been added to the main menu.
    • An option for owners of a permanent license to update their contact data has been added.
    • An option to submit a support request to the LewaPlus team has been added.
  • RO module
    • The internal design calculation has been reworked to correctly handle certain designs with concentrate recirculation. In this course the required calculation times could be reduced in general by 30-50 percent.
    • The determination of the primary default configuration has been reworked to avoid low concentrate flow.
    • An option has been added to reset a design to the primary default configuration.
    • The default array calculation has been adjusted. The number of stages is not changed anymore.

Fixed bugs

  • RO module
    • The calculation failed for certain designs with concentrate recirculation, where the requested recovery was not achievable without concentrate recirculation. This has been fixed.
    • The design diagram was not updated correctly on selecting or deselecting an isobaric ERD. This has been fixed.
    • The design overview diagram was not updated correctly on selecting an iisobaric ERD. This has been fixed.
    • For 2-pass designs the concentrate recirculation flow was not correctly taken into account for the calculation of the power consumption. This has been fixed.
    • Some element specifications were adjusted.
    • The buttons for copying the permeate or concentrate composition became sometimes invisible on computer systems with 2 monitors. This has been fixed by repositioning the buttons.
  • Demi / Demi Check module
    • Missing resin specifications were added (i.e. for resin A 8073).
  • Mixbed module
    • The calculation of the regeneration service time has been corrected
  • Condensate Polishing module
    • The calculation of the regeneration service time has been corrected

Version 1.11, November 2015 - What's new?

Features

  • Base module
    • Importing of LewaPlus exchange files (.lxf) has been enhanced. More than 1 LewaPlus exchange file can now be selected for import. Additionally LewaPlus exchange files can be dragged to the project list area.
  • RO module
    • An overview screen similar to that for 2-pass designs has been added for 1-pass designs.
    • The overview screen now also displays a list of the types and quantities of membrane elements used in the design.
    • On the design screen information about the estimated power consumption is displayed.
  • CP module
    • A new module for Condensate Polishing has been added.

Fixed bugs

  • RO module
    • The pH-dependent adjustment of the silica passage has been corrected.
    • On upgrading a project an adjusted pH value was reset. This has been fixed.
    • The units of the display fields related to the selection of an isobaric ERD were not adjusted on switching the unit system. This has been fixed.
    • Correction of the osmotic pressure calculation with seawater elements.
  • Demi / Demi Check module
    • For reverse fluidized bed in WAC/SAC configuration the compaction parameters entered for SAC are now correctly copied over to WAC.
  • Mixbed module
    • The portion of the 2. dilution is now correctly updated on screen.
  • Softening module
    • User unit system for printout is now supported.

Features

  • Base module
    • A Tools and Documents tab has been added to the main window of LewaPlus. This tab allows access to tools and documents provided by LANXESS, and also allows the addition of user defined tools and documents.
  • RO module
    • On the post-treatment screen a button was added to select a default post-treatment. The goal of the default post-treatment is to have an LSI slightly above 0.1 and a pH value acceptable for potable water.
    • On the design screen a complete set of saturation indexes is now displayed for the concentrate.

Fixed bugs

  • RO module
    • A change of the water type or the temperature on the water analysis screen was not correctly propagated to the design screen. This has been fixed.
    • Fixed a bug on the water analysis and the design screen. Adjusting the pH value if no concentration was given for HCO3 could result in erroneous values. If no concentration is given for HCO3 adjustment of the pH value is now prohibited.

Features

  • Base module
    • The download of Product Data Sheets for ion exchange resins is now more reliable.
    • The LewaPlus license can now be saved to file for keeping a backup of the license.
  • RO module
    • Added system overview screen for 2-pass designs showing a diagram of the system configuration and characteristic values like recovery rates, flow rates, TDS, conductivity, and pH.
    • Enhanced concentrate recirculation options for second pass of a 2-pass desgin. It is now possible to have local concentrate recirculation in addition to interpass concentrate recirculation.
  • SD module
    • For softening applications the hardness leakage is calculated. Additionally it is possible to let LewaPlus calculate the specific regenerant consumption corresponding to a user-specified hardness leakage.
    • The final water analysis is now based on the average hardness leakage instead of the end point.

Fixed bugs

  • RO module
    • Fixed a bug in the calculation of the SiO2 saturation index.
    • Fixed a bug on the design screen for 2-pass designs. The temperature is now synchronized between pass 1 and 2, if the temperature value is changed for one of the passes.

    • The unit system for the printout is now selectable at any time from the left sidebar combo box of the project window.
  • RO module
    • Added buttons to allow to copy the water composition of the permeate and the concentrate on the design screen.
  • IX modules
    • In the Softening and Dealkalization module the composition of the end water is now calculated and displayed on screen for all dealkalization and softening applications.

Fixed bugs

  • Base module
    • Fixed a bug in the water analysis clipboard function of all modules. The temperature unit could be erroneously set to Fahrenheit.
  • RO module
    • Fixed a bug in the design calculation procedure. Due to too tight convergence limits it could happen that an error message "Calulation failed" was displayed, although the results were within acceptable tolerance.
    • On the cost screen the default currency set in the user preferences is now taken into account for new projects. (It was always Euro before.)
  • IX modules
    • Fixed a bug in the Softening module. If the input water analysis was unbalanced, the balancing with Sodium or Chloride was not taken into account for the end water analysis.
    • Adjusted formula for calculating the operating capacity in the Softening module. The previous formula could result in too low operating capacities.

Features

  • Base module
    • Added support for selecting a user-defined unit system. The units for temperatures, flow rates, and pressure values can be selected by the user.
  •  RO module
    • Added support for hybrid vessel configurations
    • Changed order of screens: the post-treatment screen now follows the power consumption screen, to allow easier checking of design changes on the power consumption.
    • For 2-pass designs the total system permeate flow can be specified instead of the permeate flow of the 2nd pass.
    • If the split partial option is selected for a 2-pass design, the membrane array will be automatically adjusted on activating this option to get a similar permeate quality as without this option, usually resulting in a smaller array.
  • IX modules
    • In the Softening and Dealkalization module the composition of the end water is now calculated and displayed on screen for pure softening applications.

Fixed bugs

  • Base module
    • Fixed a bug in the water analysis of all modules. The application could hang after selecting a short analysis based on conductivity without entering a new conductivity value.
  • RO module
    • Fixed a bug in selecting the number of stages of a pass. The application could crash, if the number of stages was entered directly into the text control instead of using the increase resp. decrease buttons.
  • IX modules
    • Fixed a bug in the Mixbed module. In the page selection dialog for the PDF report the page "Net production and waste water" was not selectable, although the page was correctly created in PDF.

  •  Base module
    • Added options to control automatic balancing of the feed water analysis.
    •  Updated Product Scout allowing access to product datasheets of new products. Additionally the Product Scout now caches downloaded product datasheets, so that they can be accessed later even without an active Internet connection.

    • Added options to control concentrate recirculation in 2-pass designs

  • Base module
    • Enhanced option for calculation of the CO2 concentration in the extended water analysis: the CO2 concentration is not calculated automatically anymore, unless the user selects this option explicitly. This results in consistent CO2 concentrations in case of later changes to the water analysis.
    • Enhanced PDF report generation: before generating a PDF report for a project it is now possible to select or deselect optional pages to be included in the report.

    • Fixed a bug in the calculation of the feed flow of the 2nd pass in case of permeate blending. This affected also the calculation of the power consumption of the 2nd pass.
    • Fixed a problem in the post-treatment: conducting post-treatment of permeate containing no alkalinity had no impact on the permeate composition. The affected post-treatment options will not be available any longer in such cases
    • Corrected pressure drop coefficients for 4“ membrane elements

    • Fixed a bug for multistep designs where the PDF report was garbled due to missing output of the maximum total bed depth

    • Incorrect waste water composition when decarbonisator is used
