LANXESS Highlighting New Water Purification Technologies at IWC 2018, Booths 206 & 208

  • LANXESS adds ultrafiltration (UF) to the existing range of water-treatment technologies.
  • LewaPlus® 2.0.7 design software allows for integration of IX and RO designs within one project file.

Birmingham, NJ – October 15, 2018LANXESS’ Liquid Purification Technologies business unit—operating in the United States as LANXESS Sybron Chemicals—enables customers in a wide variety of industries to meet their water purification challenges with a broad portfolio of ion exchange resins, reverse osmosis membranes and other specialized technologies and services. These will be on full display at the LANXESS booth (#206 & 208) at the upcoming International Water Conference, November 4 – 8 in Scottsdale, Arizona, including its newest technologies, ultrafiltration and a new CCRO  (process technology patented by Desalitech) module to its LewaPlus® design software.

 

LEWATIT® ion exchange (IX) resins from LANXESS are used to remove dissolved solids from liquids. Water treatment is the best-known and largest application for IX resins. LANXESS has a range of special LEWATIT® resins that are able to selectively remove, for example, heavy metal ions and organic pollutants from waste water. Other applications include ultrapure water for semiconductor production, galvanic industry (recovery and treatment of metals such as gold, copper, nickel or cobalt in hydrometallurgy), pharmaceuticals, sugar refining and preparation of water for the food & beverage industry.

 

The LEWABRANE® reverse osmosis (RO) membrane elements product line, including the recently introduced Ultra Low Pressure (ULP) line, is characterized by high water permeability resulting in low power consumption and low cost operation. These LEWABRANE® elements are also used for removal of CEC’s (contaminants of emerging concern) and for removal of micro-pollutants in potable water supplies.  The RO membrane chemistry and element construction is designed to provide optimized, low-cost operation for downstream unit applications including separate-bed or mixed-bed ion exchange units.

 

Range of Services for Water Treatment Further Expanded by Ultrafiltration (UF)
LANXESS has recently added ultrafiltration (UF) to its existing range of water-treatment technologies through a cooperation agreement with the French company Polymem SA, located in Toulouse, France. LANXESS has already begun worldwide distribution of the Gigamem® ultrafiltration modules. The Gigamem® UF systems offer an extremely low system footprint, coupled with a novel Neophil hollow fiber membrane based on low-fouling PVDF chemistry.

Ultrafiltration will soon be integrated as a new module in LANXESS’s LewaPlus® design software.

Improving User Experience
LANXESS has made further enhancements to its LewaPlus® software, which is a free, comprehensive platform for designing water treatment systems with ion exchange resin (IX) and reverse osmosis (RO) membrane systems, by adding a CCRO design module (closed circuit reverse osmosis). This enhanced LewaPlus® version 2.0.7 software has a high degree of design flexibility, giving users the ability to drag and drop different technologies in one design, and showing all selected modules in a combined PDF report. In addition, LewaPlus® 2.0.7 offers users an intuitive cross reference tool to identify which LEWATIT® and LEWABRANE® products they can use to replace conventional elements when upgrading their plants.

The new LewaPlus® CCRO module for LewaPlus® 2.0.7 helps RO system designers evaluate high recovery RO processes, often used for ZLD (zero liquid discharge) or MLD (minimal liquid discharge) treatment processes. The CCRO process enables increased RO system recovery of up to 98% (vs. 75 to 85% for conventional RO process), lower power consumption per unit of permeate water, improved scaling control and simplified design and operation.

 

During the three day show, visitors will be able to experience the more user-friendly version LewaPlus®  2.0.7 in action at LANXESS’ booth.  LANXESS will host a special demonstration of the LewaPlus® CCRO module in the LANXESS booth on Monday, November 5 at 5:15 p.m.
