LANXESS Sybron Signs Marketing and Distribution Cooperation Agreement with Clean Membranes Inc., Distributor of Polymem UltraFiltration Membranes and Systems

  • LANXESS Sybron now also sells modules for ultrafiltration.

USA, US -

Birmingham, NJ – October 25, 2018LANXESS’ Liquid Purification Technologies business unit—operating in the United States as LANXESS Sybron Chemicals–one of the leading suppliers of products and solutions for water treatment, has entered into a cooperation agreement with the French company Polymem SA, Toulouse, represented in the United States and Canada by Massachusetts-based Clean Membranes. LANXESS has already begun worldwide marketing of the Gigamem family of ultrafiltration modules from Polymem, featuring Neophil hollow-fiber membranes. This adds ultrafiltration (UF) to the existing LANXESS range of water-treatment technologies.

In addition, Ultrafiltration will soon be integrated as a new module in LANXESS’ LewaPlus® IX and RO system design software.

“We are gaining a product portfolio that ideally complements our Lewatit® ion exchange resins and Lewabrane® reverse osmosis membrane elements for water treatment. Around one third of all newly built reverse osmosis plants have upstream ultrafiltration, and the trend is rising. This synergy between LANXESS’, Polymem’s and its distributor Clean Membranes’ product lines expands our respective abilities to offer innovative, customized solutions to customers throughout the region,” says Firuza Mir, President of LANXESS Sybron Chemicals.

Jean-Marc Pandraud, President and CEO of Clean Membranes, says: “We are very proud that the Liquid Purification Technologies business unit of LANXESS has chosen Clean Membranes as a partner for the distribution of Polymem’s ultrafiltration membrane modules and systems in the United States and Canada. It is a high-value, win-win partnership in this fast-growing membrane market for water treatment.”

Ultrafiltration is the ideal preliminary stage of reverse osmosis.

Ultrafiltration clarifies and disinfects water in one step. It is an alternative to conventional filtration in water purification with a significant improvement in the effectiveness of the treatment, independent of the quality of the treated raw water and without the addition of chemicals.

Ultrafiltration often replaces other conventional treatment techniques and microfiltration, as it can eliminate not only small particles but also pathogenic germs such as microorganisms, viruses, pyrogens and some dissolved organic species. It enables the treatment of water with up to 300 mg/l suspended matter (TSS) in pressure-filtration operation and up to 15 g/l in suction operation (membrane bioreactors).

Guy Marchesseault, Clean Membranes VP and CCO, emphasizes: “Our Polymem Gigamem ultrafiltration modules combine efficiency and accessibility, making them easier to maintain, less expensive to operate, and more environmentally friendly than other brands. The Gigamem family of modules, all of which are NSF61 approved, features Polymem’s new, durably hydrophilic Neophil PVDF hollow fibers, which improve filtration performance and lower operating costs.”
